I’m Starting Whole 30

Hi. It’s been a long time.

I’m trying to lose 100 lbs. It is no secret that this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’m also doing it naturally. No surgery, no medications.

I was able to lose 40 lbs over the course of 2 years through a calorie deficit and exercise. You can read my weight loss story here.

I then gained about 10 lbs back over the course of a few weeks, not from complete lack of trying, but from a little bit of slack. The amount of work it takes to lose weight and then how easy it is to lose progress is beyond infuriating.

I am pretty anti-diet. I’ve done keto several times, and I’ve hated it. Diets are not sustainable, this probably isn’t a surprise to anyone.

I’ve done Whole 30 before and had a lot of success with it. Why am I doing Whole 30 now though?

It’s not meant to be forever

The reason diets fail is because they’re not sustainable. When I was on keto, it was unreasonable to believe I could eat bacon and cheese every day and basically nothing else. Some people can do it, I’m not one of those people.

It’s a reset

It’s not meant to be forever, just 30 days. It’s a reset for me. There are foods I’ll avoid, but only for 30 days. Plus, my stomach has been hurting so much these last couple days and I don’t feel my best, so a reset would do me good.

Time for a jumpstart

I’ve been on my weight loss journey for over 2 years… That’s 26 months or 112 weeks at the time of posting this. Yes I’m human. Yes I’m impatient. Yes I also understand that this will take time but after 2 years I was hoping to have lost more than 30 lbs. It’s time for a jumpstart or a shakeup on my weight loss journey to get things moving along.

I’m Aware of What Whole30 is For

Yes, I know, you can find it on the Whole30 website that it’s not meant to be used as weight loss. I’m not expecting to lose a ton of weight in this, but I do believe it’s inevitable to lose a little bit. Like I said before, I need a jumpstart on my habits and a reset on how I approach food.

There’s more reasons but I am excited for these next 30 days. And yes I will be posting an update. (You can read my experience with Whole 30 here!)

I read your story, Tana. I think that your experiences are similar to many other folks trying to lose weight. Self sabotage, self loathing, et al. I am not different. My self worth became equal to my body weight. I tried Atkins/Keto etc, and while they worked for a while, they weren’t sustainable. I’m on zepbound now, and while people tend to think that it’s cheating, it’s worked for me. I’m at a plateau right now, but not discouraged. Anyway, I wish you well and I look forward to following your blog and progress.
