Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?
There are several quotes I love my life by. The most prominent one is:
“Nothing changes if nothing changes”
I’m not sure who said it first, as it’s been said so many times. I found this quote one day when I was scrolling through Pinterest. It hit me so hard. Immediately, I made it my phone wallpaper so that I see it every day, several times a day.
The reason it impacted me so much is because I’m currently on a weight loss journey. This is not my first weight loss journey, but I definitely intend for it to be my last. My goal is to lose half of my weight. I started almost 14 months ago and have currently lost 35 pounds.
Of course, I do wish I had lost more by now, but I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made. This current weight loss journey I’m on has been successful: meaning it is sustainable for me. I’ve never stuck with a weight loss journey this long. I’ve been able to do that by making small changes over time.
I gained weight because of my old habits and routines. So, I just needed to improve my habits and routines to lose the weight.
Nothing changes if nothing changes.
It was important for me to avoid changing too much at a time. You can read more about that in my previous post: Consistency Really is Key
My weight loss journey is far from perfect. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve taken one step forward and two steps back, there have even been times I’ve gone off course. But I just remind myself: “Nothing changes if nothing changes” every time I feel tempted to fall back into my old habits.
It’s unreasonable for me to not change anything about my life and then expect my life to change. I need to do something about it. Even if it’s a small thing, it doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be something.
I could even flip this quote to: Something changes if something changes.
This quote can be applied pretty much anywhere, but for me, my weight loss is where this quote has helped me the most.
